This is the debut for another Finnish band, playing the kind of atmospheric/melodic Black Metal that seems to be growing more and more common. A lot of bands are enamored of greats like Summoning, Moonsorrow and Wolves in the Throne Room and driven to emulate different parts of their sounds, and the fact that there are a lot of such bands does not mean any of them are more or less good. This band is pretty good, drawing heavily from the Moonsorrow end of the pool along with some influence from more keyboardy Black Metal like Old Man’s Child, though nowhere near that frenetic. Moonsorrow definitely remain the strongest influence you will hear on this album, but I don’t call that a bad thing. This album passes easily enough, not doing anything arresting, but providing a lot of mood and feel. It’s pretty good, even if it could be better. |
