It’s always admirable when a band is as open about what they’re about as possible. In Gravety’s case, everything from the title of their sophomore album to the album cover lets you know these Germans are all about making epic, muscular Metal in the vein of classics like Manowar and Viking-era Bathory and modern day standard bearers like Eternal Champion and Doomsword. You could call them derivative, you could point out they hardly challenge the supremacy of their influences, but they have plenty of chest-pounding harmonies, powerful yet soulful singing, and tight, precision playing all covered with organic, masculine cheese to overcome that fact as they march onto the well-worn battlefield to shove a sword down your whining throat. If you’re looking for your next epic soundtrack to your next epic battle, then Bow Down might be what you’re looking for.
