As the title of Thrash Times at Ridgemont High would suggest, it is an album of ‘80s thrash covers lovingly redone by King Fowley and his band Deceased. An album of covers is nothing new, especially in the time of the Covid pandemic as they are relatively easy to put together and get out to the fans, especially in the absence of touring. King and company wear their influences on their sleeves by focusing on bands that are not from the Bay Area or NY scenes, instead opting for groups that leaned more toward the extreme, which makes sense given Deceased is a death metal band. I particularly enjoyed the covers of Razor’s "Take this Torch," Whiplash’s "Spit on Your Grave" and "Blessed Death’s "Pray for Death," but honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the songs here due to the energy and conviction of the performances. Despite a variety of origins, the songs on Thrash Times at Ridgemont High flow well, partly due to the same band performing them but also in no small part to the song choices and sequencing, which was done with purposeful intent. If you want to take a trip back to the ‘80s and get your ass kicked in the pit, this is an album for you.
