This is a surprise from a US band out of New York, and it's old-fashioned in a couple of different ways, because for one it is obviously inspired by classic '70s-'80s sounds (probably more on the '70s, to be fair), and for another thing because it reminds me of stuff we got back in the aughts like Goat Horn or Valkija, with the blaring riffs and the high-octane wail of frontwoman Sarabeth Linden, who really lays it down on this album – really just a hell of a voice on this woman. So this is just a feast for old-school metalheads who want metal that is just stripped down to the essentials. This band doesn't have a gimmick, they just write good songs and play the shit out of them. The production is hard and energetic, the playing is solid, and the vocals are just first-rate. A band to watch. |
