Second full-length for Thrash la Reine, though this one has a length that's more worthy of a full-length (not taking anything away from their debut, La foi, la loi, la croix, mind you). This one also feels like it honours the band's name more, with a thrashier edge than the debut. Once again this is all sung in French with clean vocals and a lot of the vocal lines here just call for a singalong. The band's music is like Quebec—or French-Canadian—folkloric music, just very much metalized. It just has that vibe and I'm sure a lot of French-Canadians will recognize winks at their history in some of the lyrics. The band even has a pretty cool cover (with a video to back it up) of the very popular song "Au chant de l'alouette", giving it one hell of a jolt and ample serving of heaviness. I found it hard to wipe a smirk off my face and resist singing along during this one. Mind you, I found out a few days ago that the song is not very well known by younger generations, so... Eh.

Overall, the band's music is very melodic, which is kind of a must for the aforementioned folkloric vibe, and that really shines and sets the band apart from a lot of metal music coming out of the province of Quebec. But that emphasis on melody certainly doesn't mean this is watered down in any way. This is hard-hitting, thrashy heavy metal that packs a hell of a lot of heaviness and can make those speakers shake if you crank up the volume. There are some really cool fast and heavy rockers all the way down to slower, more melancholic songs that really reach down deep. This kind of stuff is done elsewhere, but it's nice to hear something folkloric from back home that will even trigger memories for those who aren't into metal. I like the band's debut but Thrash la Reine have upped their game with this one.
