My Haven is a Finnish band that plays gothic-tinged metal with a hard rock streak on their debut, Until. Initially I was crossing my fingers for something in the vein of Autumn's Altitude, but other than featuring female vocals and being generally dark in tone, the bands aren't all that similar. My Haven's music has the same songwriting style as gothic/symphonic bands like Delain and Epica. Grand melodies of woven guitars and keyboards and powerful support emotive vocals at home belting out a power metal chorus ("Blood of Hope") or an introspective ballad ("Day One"). My Haven also has a rock streak, sort of like Evanescence sans the overpowering self-loathing ("Slowest Death in Life"). Whichever way the band leans, their songwriting is sharp and engaging and the performances are up to the task as well. Gothic metal fans looking for quality music that isn't quite like everything else out there should be giving Until a spin.
