I usually don't bother with demos, especially short ones like this, but Temple of Gorgon is the new brainchild of Geist, who was the mastermind behind the excellent Valhom some years ago, so I was interested enough to listen. I am glad I did, because this is really good. This is a dense, aggressive slab of Black Metal, with heavy guitars layered over one another cranking out complex riffs. The guitar tone reminds me of Immortal, and even some of the atonal riff-structures sound a bit like Immortal, so there is definitely an influence there. The vocals are a nicely abrasive croak, and the whole of it just presents an ugly, violent sound. I definitely want to see a full-length album from this new project. |
