When I saw the name of this band, I thought they would play some kind of black/pagan/atmospheric music, but they are actually dishing up some traditional metal on Afternoon Nightmare, their second full-length album. They have a raw, sort of rough around the edges sound, not unlike many of the NWOBHM bands, with some sparse keyboards here and there. That works for the occult slant to the lyrics and with vocals that are a touch out of control, Natur reminded me of a very early Mercyful Fate or maybe October 31. The songs lack solid hooks and there isn't much here that brought me back for repeat listens, but it is competently played and a little different from a lot of other bands, so they might be on to something that just didn't all come together on this album. |
