Zandelle (and former Gothic Knights) singer George Tsalikis has released his second solo album, Return to Power, via Pure Steel Records. It is truly a solo album as George handles the vocals and all the instruments, except for the drums, which are provided by Zandelle's Joe Cardillo. It is an album of pummeling US metal goodness with all the hallmarks you expect from a monumentally crunchy guitar tone to high-pitched screams, driving lead work and strong songwriting. There is a nice mix of galloping, in-your-face songs ("Live to Ride", "Together We Rise") that leave a trail of smoke in their wake and slower epic tunes ("Dehumanized", "In Memory") where George effectively uses vocal lines and more spacing in the riffing along with tasteful keyboards to create a sense of faraway horizons and atmosphere. There's nary a bad track on Return to Power, so if you like US metal in the vein of Virgin Steele and Liege Lord or just ass kicking traditional metal in general, it is definitely an album to check out. |
