Blood Harvest Records is issuing on vinyl this nice little punkish death metal offering from last year. This Finnish band doesn't break any new grounds with their debut album, but it does kick ass. This stuff is raw but not overly so and the music is mostly mid-paced with the occasionally faster passages. Except for a few bits, I didn't find anything that particularly memorable, but there are more than a few headbangable, or at least foot-tapping, moments. I hear some old-school thrash on the extreme end, like a bit of old Slayer, which gives the songs a little pizazz. The growls are decipherable enough for the most part, except when the vocalist goes all out and then good luck figuring out what he's growling about. ;) Anthropophagy likely won't blow your socks off, but it's one of those albums that will show you a good time while it's on. |
