This is a reissue of Killing Addiction's first album, with their Legacies of Terror demo and Necrosphere added as bonus tracks, for 71 minutes of old-school death metal. Their style is pretty raw and heavy and I found the guitars to be the most appealing aspect to their songs: Raw, crisp, razor-sharp and often with a galloping style that gets the foot tapping and the head banging. It's really hard not to get stuck on the guitar sound and practically ignore the rest. Killing Addiction aren't much about speed; the music is mostly slow to mid-paced, with the occasional speedy passages. No matter what, there's more than enough crushing heaviness to be found here, all served with a gloomy atmosphere. I'm not too fond of the very guttural growls which I think are not the best for this style of death metal and more fit for faster, pedal-to-the-metal brutal death metal, but you get used to them.

One thing I've come to dislike about reissues is when they add lots of tracks that break the mood of the album. In this case, however, the demo and EP tracks that are included actually fit the album, so the bonus tracks do not sound out of place. Seventy-one minutes of this might be pushing it a little, but in the end the whole thing flows pretty well. Killing Addiction have been less than prolific, at least in terms of full-length albums, but they're apparently still active so maybe there's something good coming in the future. In the meantime, if you're hankering for some good old-school death—this is material released in 1990, 1991 and 1993—then this is worth a look.
