Aesculeta are a Black Metal project from Russia obsessed with the show Twin Peaks, of all things. I think this might be a one-man act, but I couldn't find any information about the members online, so I can't be sure. What I do know is that their recently re-released debut, Restless Souls, is an album of beautiful, sometimes daunting Atmospheric Black Metal that's very reminiscent of bands like Summoning, Caladan Brood, and even early Arcturus. The vocals are a standard snarl, but they fit in with the music perfectly and add to the sinister mood that permeates throughout. This is all propped up by a crystal-clear production job that gives the compositions a lot of room to breathe, all of which evoke the misty forests and small-town menace of the show beautifully. An impressive debut. |
