This is a Belgian band who are obviously influenced by the Swedish Doom sound but not really imitative of it. Marche Funèbre mix a lot of Doom sounds together to come up with their own take, with the heavy, melodic riffing and long songs, slow-moving compositions, and a mix of harsh and clean vocals. Opener "Scarred" takes a full four minutes of acoustic/atmospheric noodling before it gets going, and I almost bailed on the whole album, but it's worth sticking around. The songs are not always very coherent, but there are some beautiful riffs on here, and the band does a good job blending their disparate influences into a unified sound. Some of this album goes on too long, and it's probably too long as a whole, but it's still definitely worth it for Doom fans who want something a little different. |
