I often stall on reviewing some albums because that means they get off regular rotation and I don't want that to happen. Deitus' Via Dolorosa is one such album. These UK black metallers have penned a cold, visceral and vicious little slab of black metal that's nonetheless filled with great melodies that stirring up an ocean of emotions and there's a crushing, almost depressing vibe throughout that just punches your lights out. The guitar work on this is just great, filling the ears with addictive melodic black metal goodness. I might go as far as to say that there's the occasional epic vibe on here as well. But really where Deitus shine here is in marrying cold, old-school black metal with the more melodic style that was quite predominant in the early 2000s. I'm wondering if they can top this, or at least come up with something equally good...
