These Polish black metallers have been at it since 2007 and this is their fifth full-length studio album and they also sport a bunch of singles, EPs, splits, a compilation and even a box set. Blaze of Perdition's brand of black metal is very melodic and their sound is very rich and polished (absolutely no pun intended...) They seem to borrow a little bit from melodic death metal (not the Swedish style that became overcrowded in the early 2000s) and at times I was reminded a little bit of God Dethroned's more melodic material. Their music can get very catchy despite a somewhat desperate and "no future" kind of atmosphere, and even the harsh vocals almost invite you to sing along at times (good luck with that). If you're not into the rawer forms of black metal and like a heavy dose of melody with some gloomy atmosphere and don't mind the harsh vocal style, The Harrowing of Hearts could be your port of entry to the dark side... |
