Primal Future: 2019 is the sixth full-length from Joel Grind's main gig, Toxic Holocaust. It is full of the same frenzied, raw thrash the band has made its style but even more wild and abrasive. Grind's vocals are edging ever closer to death metal, not that there is anything wrong with that, giving the music more "in your face" presence. There are no bad tracks but no real corkers either, which is something of a letdown. Songs like "Black Out the Code" and "Cybernetic War" are perfectly fine but what had you tapping your foot or banging your head while they were on fades a bit too rapidly once the record has finished. Don't let that stop you from giving Primal Future: 2019 a whirl if you liked any of Toxic Holocaust's previous output or punky, enraged thrash because it is definitely worth your time. |
