A Single Point of Light is the second album from this Irish band and if you liked their debut (The Reaper's Spiral), I can't imagine a scenario where you won't like it. Epic heavy metal built around an early '80s US metal template is Terminus' aim and they end up pretty close to the mark. Clear, echo-enhanced vocals, fat guitars and thick bottom end permeate the songs and the urge to put a fist in the air is hard to resist. Terminus attempts a couple of longer tracks ("Harvest", "Spinning Webs, Catching Dreams") which drag a bit, exposing some areas of opportunity in terms of songwriting but then you get the monstrous "Cry Havoc" and all is forgiven. The chorus on this one has "shout along with" written all over it. A Single Point of Light is every bit as good as The Reaper's Spiral. If you are a fan of bands like Argus, Grand Magus and Visigoth, checking out Terminus should be on your to-do list. |
