With a band name like "Disembowel," one could be forgiven for immediately think of brutal death metal. Well, this is not it—at least not this Disembowel hailing from Chile. Their death metal is rooted into the old-school stuff, so it's kind of thrashy with decipherable but nightmarish death growls and you get a good blend of anything from slow to fast-paced death metal goodness. They err on the raw and basic side of things, so don't expect anything polished in the slightest here; they do nail the dark atmosphere and that more than makes up for it. Plagues and Ancient Rites isn't revolutionizing the genre at all, but it's good while it's on. |
