Embalmer have been around off and on since 1990 and currently have two full-length studio albums, a bunch of demos, an EP and a couple of compilation discs. And now this, Embalmed Alive, a live album that packs 15 songs in 43 minutes.
I really thought the title was literally about being embalmed alive—a pun on the band's name, since it doesn't really sound like a live album. No interactions with the crowd that I noticed, no crowd noises. Doesn't matter; some bands overdo that stuff, so this brings some balance to the world. The 15 songs on offer are a big barrage of raw, crude death metal with no little niceties whatsoever. No frills, no bullshit, just a pedal-to-the-metal wall of sheer speed and heaviness. The delivery is almost like a rough cut and that just adds to the savagery of Embalmer's death metal. If you're looking for an album devoid of any polish while not sounding like crap, Embalmed Alive is it.
