Temptress is a new band reaching way back to the early days of the NWOBHM on their first release, the EP (really a single as there are only two songs) The Orb. The sound is period-correct with simple guitar effects and echo-soaked vocals mixed low to make them sound like they came out of a low-fi studio (like those old Neat recordings) and/or hide the singer's limitations. Musically, "The Orb" has a mystical vibe and a hard-rocking bounce not unlike something you might hear from High Spirits, whereas "Woman" has a heavier, grittier feel which combined with the vocals had me thinking of Witchfinder General. There's nothing about these songs that is new, but they are played quite well and they have that early '80s feel so if you like that kind of thing, Temptress is a band to watch. |
