The Night Eternal is a new band from Germany that has a thing for '80s traditional metal, specifically the legendary Judas Priest. Their self-titled debut EP contains three tracks of melodic dueling guitars, steady rhythm section and plaintive vocals plus a cover of "(Take These) Chains" from Screaming for Vengeance. The passion for the music is obvious but the songwriting is generic while the cover neither does the original justice nor makes the song The Night Eternal's own, rendering it pointless. I don't want to discourage a young band, but they'll need to step things up if they want to be more than just another small fish in a very big ocean. |
