Sölicitör may be a young band (formed in 2018), but they play it as old school as it gets. This is a reissue of their 4-track EP, with demo versions of "Nightstalker" and "Speed Tyrant" added. The difference in quality between those and the studio versions is quite notable, though the demo versions are certainly nothing to sneer at, with a charming raw edge to them. Sölicitör's brand of heavy/speed metal is pretty basic and raw without sounding cheap and is certainly reminiscent of some of the underground stuff of the mid-80s. Singer Amy Lee Carlson sure knows how to drive this with her clear and powerful—but not overbearing—voice. It's straightforward, catchy, fun and sometimes a little dark on the side just to keep things interesting. If you like your heavy metal with a touch of speed and free of any pretension or frills, this is a band worth checking out. A first full-length is in the works for 2020, so let's hope they can keep this up. |
