You guessed it, this is Gaahl's (of Gorgoroth fame) "new" (2015) band, with other established Norwegian black metal musicians handling the instruments. Norwegian black metal musicians have a thing for going off the road from time to time, and this is what we have here with the exception that this doesn't suck, unlike so many other off-road side projects. Rooted in black metal, GastiR - Ghosts Invited is a nonetheless a rather slow-paced affair, very doomy without being quite doom metal. Slow extreme metal, maybe? It's very beautiful, soothing music with great clean, soul-reaching vocals courtesy of Gaahl that just makes you want to kick back, relax, and think of life, death, or really whatever comes to mind. Or not think at all and just let the music take you on a spiritual journey. The atmosphere here is just top-notch and I can't even describe it in words. GastiR - Ghosts Invited is not an album that you listen to; it's one that you experience. |
