As much as it sucks that the main members of Immortal parted ways, one thing is for sure: With Immortal sporting a new line-up and Abbath having his own band, fans of Immortal's sound are getting lots of good music as a result of the dispute. Outstrider is Abbath's second full-length and it is very much in the vein of Immortal, mixing the cold melodies of Immortal's AtHoW and later output with the earlier, faster and rawer material. So, nothing really new here other than the marriage of the two main eras of Immortal. The end result is a diverse album that is bound to please fans of that sharp, cold Norwegian sound. On the limited edition reviewed here, a cool, fast cover of Bathory's "Pace 'till Death" ends the hostilities |
