Ordinul Negru (Romanian for Black Order) are one of the more prolific metal bands to come from Romania, having a total of eight full-length albums and the expected assortment of splits, demos, and EPs. This is a re-release of their sixth album, and if this is anything to go by, I needn't bother with the rest of their back catalogue. "Raw" is the first word I'd use to describe this, as they're clearly trying to emulate that second-wave sound that countless bands before them have attempted to imitate. Unfortunately, "forgettable" is the second word I'd use, as they emulate everything about the sound that got stale: low-fi buzzing in place of actual riffs, a shitty production job that was clearly mistaken for a subterranean sound, and a complete lack of ideas or inspiration outside of being obnoxious. The guitars are particularly bad, sounding more like a malfunctioning brush cutter than anything with real bite, and it'll drive you crazy enough to wish you were cutting your ears off with one instead. Awful. |
