The only other album I have heard from this band is Never to Dawn from 2012, which was nowhere near as good as this. Beheaded have been chopping things up in the underground for almost 30 years now (albeit with no original members remaining), and this is a real monster of an album. Packed with blistering riffs, Only Death Can Save You is a fearsome workout in Death Metal crushing. The production is thoroughly modern and practically flawless, giving the guitars a feral, snarling tone and the drums a thunderous presence. The songwriting is a definite mix between the crushing heaviness of the Euro school and the high-speed riffage of USDM. The songs all sound quite a bit alike, but there is enough identity to keep the album from wearing on you. This is just heavy, brutal, precise metal that any Death Metal fan should not miss. |
