Right out of Rhode Island comes this machine-gunning hellfest of an EP filled with music aptly described by the title. Ancient Torment's black metal has the unrelenting speed of the '90s Scandinavian scene with a rawness that makes this sound anything but pretty, yet somehow some melodies emerge here and there. The vocals are pretty sick, harsh tormented shouts that make me think a bit of early Burzum if Varg hadn't sounded so screechy. The takeaway is sick fucking vocals. If you like very speedy black metal that's raw and disturbed as hell, this is certainly worth checking out. |
