Melodic Finnish Heavy Metal flag bearers Merging Flare have come a long way since they started out in 2001. Started by Beast in Black guitarist Kasperi Heikkinen long before it existed, it took the band a decade to release their debut album, Reverence, and it took them eight more to release this one. Since their debut impressed the hell out of me, I had pretty high hopes for their second outing, and I'm happy to say that Revolt Regime meets those hopes in spades.

Musically, this is very much a continuation down the same path that they paved for themselves on their debut. They still rely firmly on their hooky, heavily guitar driven Heavy Metal that takes as much from the '80s as it does the '90s, with obvious comparisons being the usual suspects of Priest, Accept, Helloween, and Running Wild. In other words, everything's very familiar sounding here, but with infectious melodies, strong choruses, Kasperi's brilliant solos, and vocalist Matias Palm's phenomenal range and capabilities, that familiarity is what makes this album such a pleasure to listen to.

In regard to the songs on Revolt Regime, nothing's changed from the metallic anthems of their debut. They know what they're good at, which is shamelessly striking straight into the nerve center of pure Heavy Metal, and they do it well. Songs like "Alliance in Defiance" and "Sin Against the Sinner" may not be terribly original, but they channel their influences more than enough to get your head banging in no time.

Overall it's very hard to dislike this album. If you want an earful of what makes Heavy Metal such a beautiful thing, then this is the album for you. Highly recommended.
