Lyrics dealing with dragons, treasure and adventure on the high seas set to double-kick drums, major-chord riffs and high-pitched vocals are nothing new in power metal. Thornbridge's second album, Theatrical Masterpiece, has it all covered with songs that are played well and sound great though the songwriting is just a hair short of hitting the "stick in your head for hours afterward" bar. That's not meant as a knock as the album is great fun and has the added bonus of featuring riffs and vocal lines reminiscent of early Cryonic Temple, definitely a good thing in my book. A fine effort from Thornbridge, one that the power metal fan worth his/her salt will want to own.
