I was surprised to see that this band hails from Greece as black metal from that country is usually more polished. Devoted to Nothingness is anything but polished. The music here is very lo-fi, basic, raw to the bone and mostly depressing as hell. Twenty-four minutes of torment and despair is what this is all about and, as if the music itself wasn't enough to mess with your head, the vocals are even more tortured and hellish, mixing feeling of anger and despair (no, not in the mommy-I-need-a-safe-place sense). If you like it lo-fi and raw, this certainly does the trick, but those insane vocals really steal the show. |
