This is fuckin' beautiful... and sick at the very same time!! This Greek blackened death metal havoc kind of reminds me of Germany's own death metal masters Sulphur Aeon, but with a less bombastic edge for ocean-deep atmospheres and fewer ritual chants. Sole member Van Gimot has created quite a monster of an album. Massive song structures, Gimot's brilliant growls, some nice sound effects, and a captivatingly grim and dark atmosphere all build up a to a near impenetrable wall of sound that will easily devour your poor soul for breakfast. Of particular note is the song "Trojan Desolation", which excellently blends dark-sounding blackened death metal with traditional Greek stylings to create an ancient and desolate atmosphere. Aonian Invocation is a great piece of work that put this band on my radar, and there's no doubt that it will put them on yours as well. |
