I hadn't heard a black metal album like this one in a while. Atmospheric, dark, doomy, mysterious, haunting, savage are some words that come to mind while listening to Law of Seven Deaths. Akrotheism know how to play music that simultaneously entrances and scares you with an omnipresent haunting, evil, poignant atmosphere. The vocals join in on the fun by being just a sick as the music with some tormented screams that sound perfect (check out "Desmotropia" for a journey into the depths of hell). Even the most "beautiful," melancholic passages fuck with your mind by being depressing as hell. There's a meeting of beauty and chaos on the album, with some songs being very orderly while others tend more toward a distortion fest, making for a nice touch of variety. The album closer, "En", is completely out of whack with the rest, not metal in the least but still disturbing. Law of Seven Deaths is a nice little mindfuck for when you're in the mood for that kind of stuff. |
