Spectral Manifest's EP The Nether is a blackened slice of death metal which combines rasping growls and subhuman rumbles with thrashy guitars and blasting drums that modulate between evilly slow and chaotically fast. The drums never get so out of control they become little more than noise while the guitar work sounds like tremolo picking but stays more focused on riffs. I like the alternation between black and death styles as it creates a bleak, harrowing atmosphere. I wish the songs had a little more identity but despite being somewhat generic, The Nether will still make the neighbors crap themselves when you crank it to 10. |
