Welcome back to the late '90s when power metal was peaking. Sinbreed is a German outfit that plays awesomely speedy, uber-catchy music that overflows with sing-along choruses, huge major key melodies and high-pitched singing. They let up on the double-kick drums just enough to let you catch your breath before putting the pedal to the metal again. The songwriting on their fourth album, creatively titled IV, isn't transcendental, just uniformly high quality with not a sour note anywhere to be found. They don't even bother with a ballad, something I applaud them for as those are either fantastic or fantastically bad, so why roll the dice? I've enjoyed their prior albums Shadows and Master Creator and this one fits into their catalog nicely. Fans of early Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, etc. should be all over this. |
