Lots of splits coming my way recently, this one between German Speedwhore and Augrimmer, offering one song each.
Speedwhore's "The Path of the Dead" starting off pretty slowly with a bit of a tormented, mildly haunting vibe and then speeding up and rocking the hell of the speakers, with the vocals being the highlight. There's a bit of a black 'n' roll thing going in there as well, so it's a little catchy but without compromising that haunting vibe.
Augrimmer take over on side B with "The Advent at Land's End" and it's catchier than the previous stuff I've heard from them (admittedly, many years ago and my memory kind of sucks) and this song is more in your face than the one from Speedwhore, initiating the hostilities with speed right from the beginning, but applying the brakes full on right in the middle before really going pedal to the metal. This track is more melodic and melancholic than that of Speedwhore, which makes for a nice contrast.
In the end, I wish each band had contributed a couple of tracks since this is over a little too quickly. Tease!
