Thorium is a new band, comprised of three members of the classic Belgian band Ostrogoth plus a new singer and drummer, that plays melodic metal and doesn't let the grit get lost in an overly smooth production. Their self-titled debut features some sweet lead work and choruses that are sure to stick in your brain. "Ostrogoth" opens the taps and races along at a solid clip while "Icons Fall" takes a more mid-paced tack. Thorium goes for the lengthy, epic with "Four by Number, Four by Fate," a varied song that stretches over 15 minutes but does a decent job of maintaining focus. This is a solid debut and fans of Fifth Angel, Black Majesty and early Iron Maiden should definitely check it out. |
