Sometimes it's just amazing when you come across a completely new band and are immediately blown away by it after spinning their stuff for the very first time.

This happened to me with Finnish melodic death metallers Frosttide when I saw their new video "Revenant" on YouTube just a few days ago, which is also a song off their new EP, titled Decedents - Enshrined. This is actually a re-release of their 5-song Decedents EP, completely remixed and remastered but also containing the original five songs as bonus instrumental tracks.

What this Finnish trio (yes, I did say trio) offers is an absolutely top-notch musical performance of very infectious and catchy folky melodic death metal with a soundtrack-ish feel stamped all over it. The kind of feel that such names as Wintersun, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow and the like put through their sounds: big sounding, cinematic, orchestrated and just a bombastic display of all things awesome in metal music. The interaction of every element (guitars, keys, raspy and growling vocals, choirs, etc.) is just perfected to the point where things just could not get much sweeter. The video track "Revenant" is an impressive example of the band's ability to pull some larger-than-life experiences out of their songwriting chamber, and so does "Carved into Ice," which tends to send cold shivers down my spine every time I hear it.

As a bonus, the band also offers all the songs in instrumental versions, which a nice gesture for those who bought the original EP. You can, for example, use these instrumental versions for the purpose of karaoke singing in your own house party, or if you are an advanced studio musician, you can rip these tracks apart and even record your own (or someone else) vocals in, just for fun.

I can easily bet that Frosttide are going to be the next big metal imports from Finland if they just can keep up their songwriting at this high level.
