This is some whacked-out shit. This band is just one guy, who is gleefully splicing fist-pumping Heavy Metal, malevolent Black Metal, and some of the most out-of-control vocals you have ever heard. This is kind of like you threw W.A.S.P. and Venom in a blender and screamed at it. Some of the riffs on here are absolutely first-rate, and they generate a lot of propulsive energy. The eponymous Ophicvs is a better riff writer than songwriter, and these compositions don't have a lot of surprises, but they are solid enough. As a vocalist the man is insane, working everything from a Cronos-styled croak to a king Diamond squeal and everything in between. He sounds like a crew of orcs set loose in a recording studio. This is heavy, crunchy, feral, and strange, with some real air-guitar moments. Check it out. |
