Germany's Stormwitch have been around for a long time and Bound to the Witch is their eleventh full-length album. I don't recall these guys from back in the 80s but today's version, the one that makes use of the word "witch" in all their album titles, does nothing for me. From the cliché song titles ("Songs of Steel" "Odin's Revenge") to the vapid singing to the punchless riffs, this album is a paint-by-numbers German power metal effort and a not very good one. I haven't heard a band sound this neutered in a long time. I don't know if the band was just going through the motions or if the production utterly robbed the performances of any and all energy and enthusiasm but listening to Bound to the Witch is the sonic equivalent of eating a bowl of soggy cereal. It had the potential to be good, but that ship has sailed. |
