Wow. Is this something else or what. This is a compilation of Siete Lagunas’ two demos, and it sure sounds like it as it’s not a particularly coherent ensemble. The band presents some very raw, basic black metal that is not without reminding me a little of early Burzum (the tortured screams especially) and some of the stuff made by bands known together as Les Légions Noires (Vlad Tepes, etc.) Really good stuff when you’re looking for a mind fuck. They have some interludes here and there (which explains the 10 tracks in 22 minutes) that are sometimes melodic, sometimes just noise. I do mean noise. Took me a few listens to get through that. It had been a while since I last heard such lo-fi, raw and basic stuff like a few bands did in the mid ‘90s, so it’s a nice change of pace. If you’re hankering for that stuff, then you may find something to like here. The CD is limited to 300 copies with a booklet that includes drawings, lyrics and photos, so that’s were getting over a digital version if you want some extra value for your money. |
