Monument is a British band and Hellhound is their third full-length album. The first half of the record contains some pretty awesome late 80s Iron Maiden worship with the same buoyant riffs and soaring vocal lines that make songs like "Caught Somewhere in Time" and "The Evil that Men Do" so much fun. Tracks like "The Chalice" and "Nightrider" are great to sing along with and should go down a storm live. The second half is less inventive and "Straight Through the Heart" and "Creatures of the Night" are faceless and dull. The cover of Rainbow's "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" brings nothing new to the song, which makes me wonder why Monument chose it. The cover of Maiden's "Déjà vu" is better. Overall, Hellhound is a very good record that lacks the consistently good songwriting that would have pushed it to great. |
