Stormy Atmosphere, despite their slightly awkward and unimaginative name, is another quality metal act from Israel, with some tiny, basic rock elements here and there. As far as influences go, it's easy to think of Dream Theater because of the similar progressiveness that is carried out through their songs. For the most part, the band deliver their goods quite nicely, offering bits of enjoyment here and here. Unfortunately, Stormy Atmosphere has both female (Dina Shulman) and male (Teddy Shvets) vocalists sharing the vocal duties somewhat equally on the album and neither of them is able to shine. A handful of guests doesn't help much (Tom Englund of Evergrey being one of them) to make this album stand out. The musicianship is on a great level, but with nearly 72 minutes of material, they seem to lack the ideas that would give this album something to catch and keep your attention. More power and richness to the vocals and more stripped down and clear ideas into their songwriting process, and they will be sailing on more favorable and overall stronger and more satisfying waters. |
