Lost in the Black Divide is the fourth album from San Francisco's oddly named Space Vacation. Like their previous effort, Cosmic Vanguard, the guys continue to mine the retro 80s vein of Heavy Metal and for the most part do a decent job. There's lots of crunchy riffs and a D.I.Y. feel that gives the music an underground 80s vibe. There's a bit of early 80s shred ("Devil to Pay") and some tracks that by virtue of their egregiously commercial songwriting are unlistenable ("See You Again" "Reason or Rhyme"). That makes Lost in the Black Divide an uneven listen and not as consistent as its predecessor. Decent retro metal that isn't doing anything particularly special, so set your expectations appropriately. |
