Beyond the fact that Stallion is not the coolest name I've ever heard for a metal band (better than Chinchilla though...), this German band does kick all kinds of ass on From the Dead, their second full-length. High, screechy vocals over a balanced mix of speedy shredding and pounding, mid-paced riffing makes this album sound like it came right out of 1985, albeit with a modern production. There's nothing original but this is definitely a case where that matters little in the shadow of the energetic, fist-pumping performance and quality songwriting. If you dig Long Live the Loud-era Exciter, Malice, Metal Church, etc. you owe it to yourself to give From the Dead a good, long listen. |
