Not to be confused with Belarussian Death Metal band Stormhold, this act by the same name hails from Sweden and plays Power Metal-influenced Traditional Metal. You've got the standard twin-guitar attack playing Maiden-esque riffs and solos, galloping bass and big, bold choruses designed to get the crowd singing along. As with the majority of bands plying these waters, Stormhold's songwriting is serviceable but not really memorable. It's obvious these guys know their way around their instruments and are serious about what they do, but their second album, Salvation, leaves little impression after the last notes have faded. It won't replace your current favorites but fans of Iron Maiden, Black Majesty and bands in between make up Stormhold's target audience. |
