Warbell is a five-piece female-fronted melodic Death Metal unit from Jelenia Góra, Poland that is influenced by the Swedish melodic death metal of the 90s. This debut album reminds me of such albums as Jester Race and Whoracle from In Flames, Lost in the Beauty You Slay from Sacrilege, and Vittra from Naglfar along with some rocking and melancholic elements from Finland's own boys, Sentenced. It's a well-chosen mixture of some of the best elements taken from the late nineties melodic/Gothenburg-ish Death Metal scene. Havoc, generally speaking, works as a good throwback album, feeling like a nostalgic trip back to those days. I was surprised to find out that they have a woman doing all the vocals for this record. Karolina Więcek (or just "Gigi") sounds like a male vocalist, so that definitely took me by surprise – in a very positive way. She's got some balls, oh yeah! If late nineties Scandinavian melodic Death Metal is right up your alley, Warbell might well be the answer for your calls. |
