Blazon Stone is rapidly becoming one of the most prolific bands in the scene with 2017's Down in the Dark, their third album in three years and fourth overall. Running Wild worship remains the band's raison d'être and Down in the Dark is full of huge riffs and singalong choruses, most played at the brisk pace that makes Power Metal so heart-pumping. Unlike the last album, which covered a wider variety of lyrical topics, we're back to more pirate-themed songs on Down in the Dark and songs like the title track and the catchy "Hanged, Drawn and Quartered" are air guitar feasts for the ears. The rest of the album isn't quite as entertaining as War of the Roses, which set the bar pretty high. It might be that Blazon Stone went back to the well too soon. Nevertheless, if you enjoy 80s Power Metal, specifically Running Wild, Blazon Stone are your band. |
