The Merciless Light is a relatively straightforward, run-of-the-mill death metal album with a bit of a blackened twist. It's not bad but pretty faceless and without much replay value. The seventh track, "The Tehom Incantation" sounds just like that, an incantation, and is really just a waste of space (and, by extension, of my time). Same for the short intro that fails to build up any kind of atmosphere. The music is halfway between raw and polished and the album does have its moments but this is unfortunately not good enough when one has so many choices in the genre. |
