It's been a long time since I reviewed a Municipal Waste album and not much has changed: Slime and Punishment contains 14 songs clocking in at just under 29 minutes. I was right when I said these guys weren't going epic on us any time soon. The band has been using roughly the same formula since the beginning. Hey, if it works, it works, right? The guys love their crossover thrash and they do it well. If you've heard their previous material, you won't find anything particularly new here. The production does pack a punch and I've found myself wanting to thrash around while listening to this, so I can imagine that this material played live must result in a lot of bruises amongst the audience.

The guys are in top form. The vocalist shouts it like there's no tomorrow and even though I've never been all that fond of crossover-style vocals, the guy does a great job. The guitar work is razor-sharp and we're served with several cool, sometimes downright crazy solos – nothing fancy, just catchy and fun. The drums sound like they're beating the crap out of the speakers, in a good way.

Bottom line, if you liked them before then you'll like this and if you didn't, then you probably won't change your mind though it might be worth checking out a few songs just in case the improved production and the band's growing experience address any beef you might have had with them. Now excuse me while I go slam into a couple of walls.
