Iron Maiden-Piece of Mind

Rather dull, actually.

Despite being my first "true" Heavy Metal album, I would have to say of the first 5 albums, it is the one I listen to the least. That said, "The Trooper" is easily one of their top 5 songs of all time.

True, true.  And I was forgetting about No Prayer for the Dying, which is clearly the worst of the classic era albums.

For me, the “classic” era stops with Seventh Son. After that, Bruce was doing solo albums and clearly not giving the band his best effort. And I put Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son behind Piece of Mind.

I'm pretty sure he left after Fear of the Dark, as that came after No Prayer and before The X Factor.

Personally, I too have always considered the classic era of Maiden to have ended after Seventh Son. Not only is No Prayer the worst Dickinson-fronted album, but Adrian Smith's departure really made a big difference.

That said, I've also heard the post FOTD argument, which also makes sense. I just can't consider something as bad as No Prayer to have been part of a "classic period."

Yeah, X Factor is where they started to suck.

When the band known for using Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Frank Herbert and Edgar Allen Poe for lyrical inspiration started releasing songs like “Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter” and “Public Enema Number One” their classic era was officially over.

Power Trip- Nightmare Logic
Lich King- Born of the Bomb
Anthrax- Among the Living

I guess I'm back to being in a thrash mood.  2017 was an excellent death metal year.
